THIS IS: “Go Chic”
Here are two words you thought you’d never hear “Taiwanese Electropunk”
Go Chic self describe their sound as “Electro-Hyphy-Chicks, Hybridized Punk-Blues-Rock” that’s mouthful ain’t it?
I would simply describe it as “Electro-Punk-Dance, F***ing awesomeness!”
You see, amazing electroclash/punk/rock/riot grrrl bands like Go Chic, Peaches, Le Tigre or Be your own Pet don’t come too often. Yes, there is a lot of them but few are amazing. Specially one from Taipei.
Go Chic’s raw sound is something that’s been missing from the music scene as of lately. And it’s one I wish would be played more. Thou their sound is not new by any means; they do add a fresh face and a cool dance style to the genre.
Go Chic‘s debut album “I Am Confused” has all the Electro, dance, pop, punk, rock goodness that can make the aforementioned acts above proud. And, unlike most singers of the genre, Go Chic‘s Ariel Zheng brings a hot, sexy image to the music.
Behind the rocking force of Go Chic is: Sonia Lai (guitar/synth/keyboard) Winston Li (drums) Sarah Wen (bass). The trio skillfully blends a mixture of music–from Newwave to Dance to 80′s Rock-Synth that complements the witty lyrics and no BS attitude of the album amazingly well.
‘I Am Confused’ has something for everybody; from angst-ridden anthems to great electro dance tracks. It’s a must have! and I highly recommend it.
Go Chic will be performing at the SXSW festival this year.
