FEMME Covers The Shangri-Las, Anita Ward, Seal and Madonna!

One of our favorite discoveries this year, London’s electropop pixie FEMME has been sharing a series of covers for the past weeks that the singer calls: “songs that have no doubt influenced and inspired the sound and the music I make today.”  Those songs have now been made available as a free download today!

The collection includes songs by American royalty, The Shangri-Las (whom we definitely see as an inspiration for FEMME’s “Fever Boy.” ) as well as Anita Ward, Madonna and Seal. Each cover representing an impacting decade of music spanning from the 60s to the 90s. We absolutely love what she’s done here. Each song has been revitalized with an energetic synthpop sound that breathes new life into the memorable classics. These covers also offer a bit of a glimpse on what FEMME’s music might sound like on her upcoming debut. Exciting!

As a bonus, below is a fantastic cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” not included in this EP collection.

FEMME is joining Elliphant and Charli XCX on a North American tour starting in September for what is sure to be one of the most kick-ass, #girlpower shows ever! Be sure not to miss that!

Enjoy!

Starsmith – “Now I Feel Good” Feat Clare Maguire [Club Edit]

Listen to London DJ\Producer Starsmith’s glorious new single “Now I Feel Good” featuring the vocals of the equally amazing Clare Maguire whom we haven’t heard much from in a very long time. The song premiered a few days ago on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show. The euphoric track is such the feel good anthem— It makes us feel like summer is starting all over again; it’s such a refreshing blast of sunshine, disco and summertime sadness happiness!

AZ&TOR – “Featherlight” [New Single]

London-based AZ&TOR comprised of vocalist Aisha Zoe and Detroit-born producer Rich Main return with the sublime, aptly-titled, ‘Featherlight.’ The seductive track is as light and smooth as it sounds— imagine if 90′s Acid-jazz band The Brand New Heavies and AlunaGeorge got together for a jamming session…the resulting track would be this gloriously groovy, sexy number.

Röyksopp & Robyn – “Do It Again” [Official Video]

Röyksopp & Robyn unveiled the official video for ‘Do It Again’ taken from the mini-album of the same name. The epic, black-and-white video was directed by Martin de Thurah who has directed videos for Kanye West and Fever Ray. The are some  intense cinematic moments here that feel inspired by Italian cinema. Primarily, the work of  Federico Fellini and\or Bernardo Bertolucci.

Martin de Thurah tells Dazed:  “The video was filmed over three days in four Mexican states – Mexico City, Vera Cruz, Puebla and Hidalgo.” “The stories we worked on and the world we created was much more interesting and captivating than just to focus on (the artists’) performance. I worked with the idea of ‘what is our heart’s desire?’ – and I realized that no one in the world truly gets to live out their passions. We are all under some construct, whether you’re an atheist living in Denmark or a gay person in Russia.”

Although, Ditto is not featured in the newly released video; is practically impossible not to imagine or feel her presence with those powerful vocals.

“Running Low” is the first glimpse of Netsky‘s new material from the upcoming, yet-untitled, third studio album scheduled to be drop later this year.

Nu Music: Moko – “Your Love” [Official Video]

We fell in love with London-based singer/songwriter MOKO back in early 2013 by way of her gorgeous debut, Summon The Strength (which we raved about) and later with the intoxicating Honey Cocaine off her incredible, Black EP. Well, the beautiful songstress has return with the superb, “Your Love” a 90s-infused, dance jam that could possibly serve as a great follow-up to Robin S’ classic, “Show Me Love”!

In the video, Moko struts and dances alone in an empty warehouse to the vibrant, 90′s-house beats of the song; as her every move, epic braids and powerful vocals turns every empty room into her own glamorous stage. Basically, this is Moko’s “Pleasure Principle.” We love it!

“Your Love” is the lead track from MOKO’s upcoming Gold EP arriving on August 24th.

Nu Music: Jess Glynne – “Right Here” [Official Video]

We had a brief introduction of singer-songwriter Jess Glynne via her feature on Route 94′s number 1 UK single ‘My Love‘ early this year. Well, the talented British songstress recently signed with Black Butter Records (Kidnap Kid, Sinead Harnett, etc.) and her first official release, ‘Right Here‘ has finally arrived! The track, produced by label mate Gorgon City, is a slick, horn driven house-jam with a deep hypnotic bassline that’s as contagious and sensual as Glynne’s sultry vocals. “Right Here” is officially our favorite summer jam of 2014. Listen!

“Right Here” arrives July 16th.
