London’s Ruby Goe‘s brand new single “Badman” is as completely unexpected as it is completely genius. The track starts slow with downtempo baselines then teases Calvin Harris’ style synth and piano work but never fully breaks into your typical euphoric club-anthem production—Instead, it maintains a steady groove and an alluring vibe throughout the song that showcases Goe’s sultry voice over afflicting lyrics of betrayal and loss.“You’re a Badman bury me under the willow, your betrayal hitting me, blow by blow” she croons as the stuttering pianos slowly burn in the background.
The video, shot by fashion photographer Thomas Knights (Vogue Italia, LOVE, Dazed & Confused) continues the story as we follow Ruby strutting alone in the dessert then later, true to the lyrics, she meets her demise as she’s buried alive under a willow(?).
During my brief introduction to Ruby Goe last year (here) I mentioned that I was expecting great things from her…this track solidifies that statemet.
Ruby Goe has arrive. So “Get on it, on it!”
“Badman” will be released in July via Ruby’s own record label Goe Music with a remix package that include tracks by Roska, Tuff Love, Surge and EelEye follow by her debut album later in the year.
