Last Friday, I was very excited to get an invite to attend the exclusive ARTIST #TALK event hosted by Arjan of ArjanWrites.com. The event, part of Arjan’s live interview series produced in close partnership with HP and Microsoft took place at the very posh Hotel on Rivington, in downtown NYC. Previous artists featured at the live event have been, hip-hop artist Flo Rida, Pop and R&B songstress V V Brown and pop duo, The Cataracs.

As I arrived to the top floor, I noticed a nice setup of brand new HP Laptops and Computers nicely presented around the floor. Each computer screen displaying an array of music artists rocking a set of colorful new line of Beats by Dre headphones, as the tagline “What Will You b” #SHOWYOURCOLORS flashed brightly across each screen. The partnership of musicians and HP technology was noticeably clear at the event.

After test driving a few of the HP laptops, sipping a few glasses of champagne from the open bar and mingling with fellow bloggers, Arjan introduced the special guest of the evening, none other than the incredible, Ellie Goulding! She looked radiant and incredibly beautiful, rocking a fit leather jacket, blue\purple boots, hot pink hair and a big smile, she sat down for the intimate interview.

Arjan started by congratulating Ellie on the success of “Lights.” Nearly two years later the song is still being play on radio stations across the U.S.

The conversation continued to her brand new single “Anything Could Happen,” and the inspiration behind her upcoming sophomore album, Halcyon. She mentioned that “the feeling of loneliness” was the inspiration and that most of the songs were written on a beach, much like the one in her current video for “Anything Could Happen.” But she also mentioned that the album is not at all about sadness and isolation but more of hope. “I like making things that give people hope, I suppose, in the least cheesy way possible.”

After a few more questions about the new album, unreleased collaborations with producers Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia and a brief mention of Bjork as being one of her biggest inspirations, the best part of the night came when Arjan played snippets of songs from the new album, including the title track “Halcyon” and one called “My Blood,” which me and my fellow bloggers couldn’t stop talking about. The lyrics were so profound, intense and simply poetic. I really can’t wait to hear the track in full!

I think we are ALL going to be very pleased when Ellie’s new record, Halcyon drops on October 9.
